Cupping Therapy

Ancient Technique for Modern Relief

Cupping therapy uses suction cups to lift and separate tissue layers, increasing blood flow and promoting healing. This ancient practice complements massage therapy by reaching deeper layers of tissue and releasing stubborn tension.

Cupping therapy with silicone cups

How Cupping Therapy Works

Unlike massage, which pushes down into tissue, cupping creates negative pressure that lifts tissue upward. This decompression separates layers of muscle and fascia, allowing fresh blood and nutrients to flow into areas that may have been restricted.

We use silicone cups that can be applied statically (left in place) or dynamically (glided along muscles). The technique is integrated into your massage session to target specific areas of tension.

The Cupping Effect

The suction creates a localized increase in blood circulation, which brings oxygen and nutrients to the tissue while helping to flush away metabolic waste. This can accelerate healing and reduce muscle soreness.

Benefits of Cupping Therapy

Deep Tissue Release

Reaches deeper layers of muscle and fascia that can be difficult to access with hands alone.

Improved Circulation

Brings fresh blood to stagnant areas, promoting healing and recovery.

Pain Relief

Can help reduce pain from muscle tension, trigger points, and myofascial restrictions.

Faster Recovery

Athletes often use cupping to speed recovery from intense training or competition.

Reduced Muscle Tension

The decompression effect helps relax tight, overworked muscles.

Breaks Up Adhesions

Helps release fascial adhesions that restrict movement and cause discomfort.

What to Expect

During Treatment

You'll feel a pulling, stretching sensation as the cups create suction. Most people find this comfortable—even pleasant—though it may feel intense on very tight areas. Cups may be left in place for several minutes or moved along the muscle in a gliding technique.

About the Marks

Cupping often leaves circular marks on the skin that can range from light pink to deep purple. These are not bruises—they're caused by blood being drawn to the surface. The marks typically fade within 3-7 days and can indicate areas of stagnation in the tissue.

Plan Ahead

If you have an event where you'll be showing skin (wedding, beach vacation, etc.), schedule your cupping session at least one week beforehand to allow marks to fade.
